Crass Musing of the Day

I don't know if you all are aware of the rampant problem of exposed, shaven celebrity crotches. But L. has opened my eyes to this world where young, sexualized women "innocently" exit their SUVs and simultaneously give us a peek of their privates. I don't really care that they don't wear underwear. I'm just kind of freaked out by how Brazilian everyone is these days. So I'm wondering how the fad of pre-pubescent bush-lessness -- sexualized pre-pubescence, in a word -- relates to the hysteria surrounding child pornography (this issue is esp. out of control in CA.) Seriously, Britney's unmentionable has been haunting me, and it's scary. I'm scared.

When I see it, I always wonder: why? why? why do you hate your pubic hair so much?

has anyone offered a feminist critique of all these genital sightings? it occurs to me that there is something wonderfully subversive in all these young girls showing their shaved crotches to an audience of people who want to see them. in some ways, by giving up the goods, they are freeing themselves from the current obsession with them. if you were followed around by people aiming cameras at your crotch, wouldn't you just want to show them all there was to see, in all it's unmaksed, naked, glory. Like, fuck you photog, you want to see my pussy? Here it is.

Yeah, that's a pretty good point. S'why they call you critika. No, you're right, it could be read as defiant ripping down the veil of obscurity. It's just a kind of expensive and painful rip, you know?

Critika and Clear Screen, I love you guys. I too have shamefully been following this "trend," and I was particularly amused that in one pic I saw of Britney, not only did you see the goods, but you saw the Caesarian scar on her belly where her shirt was hiked up. There does seem to me to be something subversive about the combination of those two anatomical elements, although I've heard disturbing commentary about why starlets are overwhelmingly choosing to have Caesarians these days.
